Voters will be going to the polls on Thursday to decide who will be responsible for Avon and Somerset Police.

Four candidates are on the ballot paper to be the next police and crime commissioner.

The incumbent Conservative candidate is Mark Shelford who is seeking re-election. Former South West MEP Clare Moody is standing for Labour.

Benet Allen is the Liberal Democrats' candidate. He is the former deputy leader of the now-abolished Somerset West and Taunton Council.

Standing for the Green party is Katy Gran, who is a Bristol City Council councillor and family court magistrate.

The police and crime commissioner decides how the force's budget is spent, steers local policing priorities, and appoints or dismisses the chief constable.
