Fallen tree between Ipswich and Stowmarket causes train delays

A fallen tree has blocked lines and caused major disruption to rail services throughout Suffolk.

Overhead electric wires between Ipswich and Stowmarket were damaged and Network Rail said some services will be delayed or cancelled altogether.

Lines affected included London Liverpool Street to Ipswich and Norwich, Ipswich to Cambridge and Ipswich to Peterborough services.

Greater Anglia said lines may not reopen until Wednesday morning.

The company said "extensive work" was required to fix the problem and rail replacement services were operating between Ipswich and Stowmarket, and Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds.

Customers could also use existing train tickets on some unaffected services and Network Rail advised people to check before travelling.

The incident was first reported at 14:21 BST.
