Questions have been raised over parish plans to spend £750,000 turning an attic in the parish hall into an apartment to rent out.

Deputy Montfort Tadier is calling for St Brelade parish to look at other ways of helping "solve the housing problem."

Parishioners are to vote on the idea on Tuesday evening at a parish assembly.

Mr Tadier said: "These are fairly big sums for a medium sized parish to spend."

He added: "I'd like us to be even more creative, I think a one bedroom flat isn't going to solve housing problem.

"I think if we looked at maybe some of the other parish land or properties and said actually can we get maybe 20 units in there which could be mixed accommodations.

"Those are the kind of conversations that we need to be having as a parish - I think we need to look at the bigger picture."
