AP: Rep. Maxine Waters faces three ethics violations

A House investigative subcommittee has charged Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters with violating three separate ethics rules, according to sources interviewed by the Associated Press.

The charges against the California lawmaker stem from her advocacy for a bank connected to her husband: personally benefiting from improper influence, violating the government employees' ethics code, and failing to reflect creditably on the House, the AP reports.

The committee publicly announced yesterday that Waters' case is moving to a public House trial, but had not disclosed the specific violations against Waters.

Waters' trial is expected to begin this fall, which is also when a House ethics trial is scheduled to open for Democratic Rep. Charlie Rangel of New York. Rangel is accused of violating 13 separate ethics rules. Both lawmakers maintain their innocence.
