Delta Passenger’s Unpleasant Surprise, ‘Pottermore,’ and a Revolutionary Camera Comes Into Focus

We all know how frustrating it is when an airline loses luggage. That's what happened to Sy Haze from England, who flew Delta from London to Minneapolis this week. But when he finally got his luggage back after four days, he says he received more than what he had packed. In a video he posted to YouTube, Haze goes through the contents of his bag on camera one by one. "We also have a pair of sleeping shorts, my pajamas . . . damp to the touch like somebody's left these out in the rain, and smell like pee." That's right. According to Haze, someone or something used his luggage as a toilet. He especially laments the sullying of his "work trousers." He said someone also stole his aftershave and squirted toothpaste inside the suitcase. The video has gone viral, receiving nearly 200,000 views in just over a day. In a statement, Delta said, "If anything happened outside normal procedures, it is unacceptable and will be closely reviewed." The airline also gave Haze a free first-class ticket back to England. This comes just two weeks after outrage over a video posted by frustrated soldiers returning from Afghanistan who had to pay the airline extra baggage fees for military equipment. In response to that incident, Delta changed its luggage policy for military personnel.

For months Harry Potter fans have been eagerly awaiting details about the new chapter of the wizard saga that launches in October. But there's no need to head to the bookstore because it's not on paper--it's online. Author J.K. Rowling is launching a website called Pottermore. Today Rowling announced on YouTube that it will essentially be an interactive social media site for Potter fans. She says she created the site to give back to Harry Potter's "muggle" followers. On the site, users will be able to share drawings and comments about all things Harry Potter and even buy Harry Potter e-books. Details about the site come after months of guessing and social media hype. For example, a YouTube page devoted to "Pottermore" featured a clock counting down to today's announcement. There is also a map puzzle called "Secret Street View," where users can enter secret map coordinates that spell out p-o-t-t-e-r-m-o-r-e (what else?).

And lastly, photographers are buzzing on Twitter about a revolutionary new camera called the Lytro. It will allow users to change the focus of a photograph after a picture is taken. To show users how it works, the company created this photo gallery, where you can change the focus of images for yourself. According to the company, the Lytro works by capturing an entire light field, whereas other cameras record only a single amount of light. The response on Twitter has been mixed. Some say they want the Lytro "soooo bad" and call it "perfect for my bad focusing issues," while others say it's "bad news for anyone who takes photography seriously."
