Newt Gingrich loses his campaign finance team

In yet another major blow to Newt Gingrich's 2012 bid, his top fundraisers resigned from the campaign this morning .

A Gingrich spokesman confirmed to the Associated Press's Shannon McCaffrey that fundraising director Jody Thomas and fundraising consultant Mary Heitman have quit the former House speaker's struggling presidential campaign.

Their departures come just two weeks after more than a dozen top Gingrich staffers resigned en masse amid complaints the ex-lawmaker wasn't serious enough about his 2012 bid.

Among other things, former staffers have claimed Gingrich was having trouble raising cash--something the candidate and his remaining staff have strongly denied. As The Ticket reported last week, Gingrich accused his former staffers of mishandling at least $13,000 in campaign checks and implied they hadn't been doing their jobs.

An unnamed ex-staffer told NBC News last week that Gingrich had raised less than $3 million for his 2012 effort--far less than what GOP rivals such as Mitt Romney have already raised..
