Netflix finally arrives on the Android Market, supports 5 devices to start

Netflix has been an iPhone and iPad staple for many months now, and Android fans might have started to wonder if the streaming rental service forgot about them. Thankfully that wasn't the case, and Netflix has just arrived on the Android Market. It is a free application and gives subscribers access to the full Netflix instant streaming experience, complete with queues and the ability to start and stop shows and then resume viewing later.

At this point, the app only works on 5 Android handsets: the Samsung Nexus S, and the HTC Incredible, Nexus One, Evo 4G and G2. In its announcement, Netflix notes that it is feverishly working on adding more devices to that list, but as of now the rest of the Android nation — including tablet users — will just have to wait.

Netflix is aggressively expanding its reach in all directions, including the purchase of original content and a roll-out to every game console on the market. Making Android devices compatible with the service is another big step towards being able to watch what you want, when you want. Android users will be getting another great mobile video app in the form of Hulu Plus, which is also scheduled to debut sometime this year.
