Peter Lauria heads to Reuters

Reuters has tapped veteran media reporter Peter Lauria as its new editor-in-charge of technology, media and telecommunications coverage. He replaces Ken Li, who was recently promoted to editor of Reuters.com following the promotions of heavyweights Jim Impoco and Chrystia Freeland to the top of the Reuters Digital masthead.

"Peter is one of the best reporters covering U.S. media and technology today," said Tiffany Wu, Reuters' editor-in-charge of company news in the Americas, in a statement. "He is known for his excellent industry sources, deep expertise on the media business, and his relentless pursuit of media moguls. Our readers and clients will benefit from Peter's wealth of experience and passion for breaking big news."

Lauria added in a separate statement: "I'm proud and excited to be joining the talented group of journalists at Reuters ... and I look forward to both the challenge and opportunity of leading a world class TMT team."

Lauria had most recently been consulting for Dan Abrams' new website, Mogulite. Prior to that he did a 10 month stint at the Daily Beast after years on the media and entertainment beat at the New York Post.

Lauria is the latest in a string of high-profile editorial hires at Reuters, which has brought on a number of big bylines as the wire service continues pursuing a wider general interest audience. The company's markets division, meanwhile, recently experienced an executive shake-up.
